When the new Scotland manager, Walter Smith, last came up against a side managed by Marcello Lippi, the experience was one to forget. Smith, then coaching Scottish champions Rangers, saw his team beaten 4-1 and 4-0 by Lippi's Juventus in the 1995/96 UEFA Champions League, and he will be desperate to avoid a similar outcome in his first match in charge of the Scotland side.
