In second round, first leg games in Munich, Liverpool, Eindhoven and Madrid, the home sides all won to take possibly significant advantages into the second legs. Arsenal were well beaten 3-1 by Bayern Munich. Liverpool won by a similar score against Bayer Leverkusen, while Real Madrid beat Juventus 1-0 and PSV beat Monaco by the same margin.
